STEPS to JUMP START Career

🚀 1. Start before you feel ready.

Your classes, hobbies, conversations, projects, and interests are all starting ingredients. Look at what you already have in your hands. A hobby, skill, idea, or task you enjoy could lead to a career—or even a business.

⭐ 2. Your story is your advantage.

Your path does not have to look like anyone else's. You may have gained knowledge through courses, certifications, hobbies, work, volunteering, or teaching yourself. Your experiences have value. Your unique story is part of what you bring to every opportunity.

🔎 3. Explore every path—and act on one.

Explore careers through short conversations, books, videos, clubs, job shadowing, internships, and research. Even a five-minute conversation can help you say, "I want to learn more," or "That is not for me." Explore widely, but choose one meaningful step to take now.

📁 4. Build receipts—not just a résumé.

Your "receipts" are proof of what you can do. They may include:

• Class projects

• Volunteer or community service

• Leadership activities

• Certifications

• Creative work

• Research

• Presentations

• Skills you taught yourself

Do not simply list your skills. Save examples that show how you used them.

🙋🏽‍♀️ 5. Show up and follow through.

Be dependable, honest, curious, and ready to contribute. If you do not know something, say so—and be willing to learn.

Showing up gives you access to people, information, help, and opportunities you might have missed if you did not. Your ideas matter because no one else thinks exactly like you.

🔄 6. Turn setbacks into strategy.

Ask for feedback. Improve your approach. Then try again.

Rejection is information—not your identity. Failure may simply be showing you what did not work this time while shielding an idea for exploration. Use that lesson as a launchpad toward your next opportunity.

🏆 7. Ask: "How do I get momentum?" 

Winning does not always mean reaching the final goal today. It means identifying the most important next step and doing it well. This will start the thrust, but consistency matters.

Join the club.

Apply for the internship.

Show up for the career fair.

Start with what you have. Take one meaningful action. Then keep moving forward.
